What kind of weather and temperature can I expect while trekking?
While trekking in the Ghorepani Poon Hill region, the weather and temperatures can vary depending on the season:
Spring (March to May): Spring is one of the best times to trek in this region. Days are generally mild and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F) at lower altitudes. Higher up, temperatures can drop, especially in the mornings and evenings. The weather is usually dry, and the rhododendrons and other wildflowers are in full bloom, adding vibrant colors to the landscape.
Autumn (September to November): Another popular season for trekking, autumn offers clear skies, stable weather, and moderate temperatures. Daytime temperatures at lower altitudes range from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F), with colder temperatures at higher elevations. It’s a great time for clear mountain views and comfortable trekking conditions.
Winter (December to February): Winter brings colder temperatures, especially at higher altitudes. Daytime temperatures at lower elevations can range from 5°C to 15°C (41°F to 59°F), but nights can drop below freezing. Higher up, temperatures can be quite cold, and there may be snowfall, particularly in January and February. The views are often clearer during this season, but trekking can be more challenging due to the cold.
Summer/Monsoon (June to August): This is the monsoon season in Nepal, characterized by heavy rainfall, especially in July and August. Trekking during this time can be challenging due to muddy trails, leeches, and the risk of landslides. Daytime temperatures at lower altitudes can range from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), but it can feel hotter due to humidity. Visibility may be limited, affecting mountain views.
It’s essential to check weather forecasts before trekking and be prepared for varying conditions, especially if trekking during the winter or monsoon seasons.
Is it possible to use credit cards in the places I visit during the trek?
Nepalese Rupees cash is preferred to a credit card while trekking in the mountain region. Exchanging your cash into Nepali Rupees in Kathmandu before the beginning of the trek is ideal. This can be accomplished at the airport, at banks, or at your hotel. Please note the hotels will exchange up to about USD 100 for each transaction only. There are few ATMs up to higher altitudes but can be unreliable. The currency exchange rate is better in Kathmandu.
Are your guides certified by the hotel management and tourism center? Have they undergone specific training for high-altitude conditions?
We offer licensed trekking guides fluent in English. Our guides are certified by the Hotel Management and Tourism Center following a 45-day training program. Additionally, they receive high-altitude training from the Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP).
