What kind of weather and temperature can I expect while trekking?
Seasonal Temperature Variation in Langtang Gosaikunda Trek
Spring (March to May): During spring, temperatures in the Langtang Gosaikunda trekking region gradually warm up as the season progresses. In lower elevations (1500m to 3000m), daytime temperatures range from around 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F), making it a comfortable time for trekking. As you ascend higher into the mountains, temperatures at higher altitudes like Kyanjin Gompa and Gosainkunda remain cool with daytime temperatures ranging from 5°C to 15°C (41°F to 59°F). Nights can still be cold, especially at higher elevations where temperatures can drop below freezing.
Summer (June to August): The summer months in Langtang Gosaikunda are characterized by warmer temperatures and monsoon rains. Daytime temperatures in lower elevations can range from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F), but humidity levels are high due to monsoon showers. In higher elevations, temperatures are cooler compared to lower altitudes but remain mild during the daytime. Heavy rainfall is common during this period, which can make trails muddy and slippery, posing challenges for trekking.
Autumn (September to November): Autumn is considered one of the best times to trek in Langtang Gosaikunda. Daytime temperatures in lower elevations are pleasant, ranging from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F), while higher elevations experience cooler temperatures with daytime highs ranging from 5°C to 15°C (41°F to 59°F). Nights become colder as the season progresses, especially at higher altitudes. The skies are generally clear, offering excellent mountain views, making it a popular season for trekking.
Winter (December to February): Winter brings cold temperatures and clear skies to the Langtang Gosaikunda region. Daytime temperatures in lower elevations range from 5°C to 15°C (41°F to 59°F), but higher altitudes experience much colder conditions with daytime temperatures often below freezing. Nights are extremely cold with temperatures dropping well below zero, especially above 3000m. Snowfall is common in higher elevations, adding to the beauty but also making trekking more challenging due to icy trails.
Pack accordingly for varying temperatures and be prepared for occasional rain during spring and summer, while enjoying clear skies and cold nights in autumn and winter.
Is it possible to use credit cards in the places I visit during the trek?
Nepalese Rupees cash is preferred to a credit card while trekking in the mountain region. Exchanging your cash into Nepali Rupees in Kathmandu before the beginning of the trek is ideal. This can be accomplished at the airport, at banks, or at your hotel. Please note the hotels will exchange up to about USD 100 for each transaction only. There are few ATMs up to higher altitudes but can be unreliable. The currency exchange rate is better in Kathmandu.
Are your guides certified by the hotel management and tourism center? Have they undergone specific training for high-altitude conditions?
We offer licensed trekking guides fluent in English. Our guides are certified by the Hotel Management and Tourism Center following a 45-day training program. Additionally, they receive high-altitude training from the Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP).
