Nepal Visa Information

Immigration Offices, operated under the Department of Immigration, facilitate tourists traveling to Nepal by offering Visa on Arrival. The process for obtaining an ‘On Arrival’ visa is efficient and straightforward, although there may be queues during peak tourist seasons. For those looking to expedite their entry, obtaining a visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions abroad before arrival is also an option, giving you the flexibility to choose what suits you best.

If you acquire a visa from a Nepalese Diplomatic Mission, you must enter Nepal within six months from the date of visa issuance, with your total stay calculated from your entry date into the country.

Visas obtained on Arrival at entry and exit points are categorized as ‘Tourist Visas’ and allow for multiple re-entries. This type of visa is the sole entry visa to Nepal. Even if your visit to Nepal involves purposes beyond tourism—such as sightseeing, travel, mountaineering, trekking, or visiting friends and family—you must obtain a ‘Tourist Visa’ to enter the country. However, you can change your visa category according to your specific purpose and length of stay by presenting the necessary documents to the Department of Immigration.

Nationals of the following countries are advised to obtain visas in advance from nearby Diplomatic Missions (Embassies/Consulates) of the Nepalese Government:

  1. Nigeria
  2. Ghana
  3. Zimbabwe
  4. Swaziland
  5. Cameroon
  6. Somalia
  7. Liberia
  8. Ethiopia
  9. Iraq

It’s important to note that visa payments must be made in cash, and various major currencies including Euro, Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling, US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar, and Japanese Yen are accepted.
