Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival at the airport, you will receive a warm welcome from a Real Journey Nepal staff member who will escort you to your Kathmandu host family or hotel. Embrace Nepalese hospitality as you settle into your accommodations, complete with your own room and meals provided. This peaceful and secure suburb serves as your home base for orientation and volunteering in Nepal, conveniently connected to town and surrounding countryside by easy bus routes. Meals: Bed and Breakfast.
Day 2: Kathmandu – Sightseeing and Trek Preparation
Explore the enchanting Durbar Square, the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, the iconic Swayambhunath Stupa, and the magnificent Bouddhanath Stupa, all UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Marvel at the ancient royal history, immerse in Hindu spirituality, and experience the serenity of the stupas. In the afternoon, meet your fellow adventurers and discuss our exciting journey ahead at the Real Journey Nepal office. Overnight in Kathmandu. Meals: Bed and Breakfast.
Day 3: Drive to Arughat (600 meters) and Soti Khola (710 meters)
Depart Kathmandu early for a scenic drive to Arughat, the trek’s starting point. Continue by jeep to Soti Khola, winding through mountain roads with breathtaking landscapes. Settle into your accommodations in Soti Khola and prepare for the trek ahead.
Day 4: Trek to Machha Khola
Begin your trek along the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through picturesque forests and traditional villages. Cross suspension bridges and immerse yourself in the rhythm of remote life. Arrive in Machha Khola and enjoy the tranquility of the Himalayas.
Day 5: Trek to Jagat
Continue along the Budhi Gandaki River, taking in spectacular views and passing through villages like Tatopani and Dobhan. Ascend through terraced fields and lush forests to reach Jagat, characterized by Tibetan culture and stone houses. Interact with friendly locals and gain insight into their way of life.
Day 6: Trek to Lokpa
Enter the heart of the Tsum Valley, crossing suspension bridges and following the river through Philim, known for its rich Tibetan culture. Reach Lokpa for a breathtaking view of the Tsum Valley and spend the night in serene surroundings.
Day 7: Trek to Chumling
Continue deeper into the Tsum Valley, exploring ancient monasteries and gompas. Arrive in Chumling, a picturesque village with stunning vistas, and relax and reflect on your journey so far.
Day 8: Trek to Chokhangparo
Ascend through lush forests and terraced fields, crossing suspension bridges. Enjoy panoramic views of peaks like Ganesh Himal. Experience the serenity of Chokhangparo and immerse yourself in Tsum culture.
Day 9: Trek to Nile
Venture deeper into the Tsum Valley, visiting Rachen Gompa, a monastery inhabited by nuns. Enjoy remarkable mountain views as you trek to Nile. Explore its unique monasteries and unwind in this peaceful Himalayan setting.
Day 10: Explore Mu Gompa
Spend the day exploring Mu Gompa, a prominent Buddhist monastery. Hike to the Tibet border for breathtaking peak views and gain insight into Tibetan Buddhist culture. Return to Nile for a well-deserved rest.
Day 11: Trek back to Chumling
Descend back to Chumling, reflecting on your unique experiences and interactions in the Tsum Valley. Enjoy an overnight stay in familiar surroundings.
Day 12: Trek to Philim
Continue your trek downhill to Philim. Here, you’ll enjoy the peaceful Himalayan setting and reflect on your journey through the Tsum Valley.
Day 13: Trek to Tatopani
Descend further to Tatopani, where you can soak in natural hot springs, providing a well-deserved respite for your tired muscles. Relax in the serene atmosphere of Tatopani.
Day 14: Trek to Soti Khola
Follow the river trail back to Soti Khola, passing through lush forests and traditional villages. Celebrate the successful completion of your trek as you settle into your accommodations in Soti Khola.
Day 15: Drive to Kathmandu
Bid farewell to the Tsum Valley and embark on the scenic drive back to Kathmandu. Reflect on the extraordinary landscapes and experiences you’ve encountered. Upon reaching Kathmandu, check into your hotel and enjoy a well-deserved rest.
Day 16: Departure
Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy some free time in Kathmandu for last-minute shopping or exploration. As your adventure in Nepal ends, you’ll be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure, carrying cherished memories of your Tsum Valley journey.

In general, mornings and evenings can be chilly, especially at higher elevations, while daytime temperatures can be quite pleasant for trekking. It’s essential to be prepared for sudden weather changes and carry appropriate clothing and gear for both warm and cold conditions.
Is it possible to use credit cards in the places I visit during the trek?
Nepalese Rupees cash is preferred to a credit card while trekking in the mountain region. Exchanging your cash into Nepali Rupees in Kathmandu before the beginning of the trek is ideal. This can be accomplished at the airport, at banks, or at your hotel. Please note the hotels will exchange up to about USD 100 for each transaction only. There are few ATMs up to higher altitudes but can be unreliable. The currency exchange rate is better in Kathmandu.
